David Cowen has a varied career as an organist, pianist and teacher. He is Organist of Leicester Cathedral, where he accompanies the choir for five weekly services, as well as concerts, recordings, and broadcasts. He has also toured with the Cathedral Choir in Europe and Japan.

For over twenty years, he has taught piano and organ at Loughborough Schools Foundation, and more recently he has joined the staff of English Martyrs’ Catholic School, Leicester and Charnwood College.

David was born in Newcastle and began his organ studies with Timothy Hone at Newcastle Cathedral. He was an Organ Scholar at the University of Oxford and Wells Cathedral and pursued advanced studies in organ and improvisation with Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin in Paris. He was a finalist in international improvisation competitions in both Biarritz, France and Haarlem, Holland. David is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and holds the Certificat d’aptitude d’Artiste Musicien of the Diocese of Paris.

James Cowen is an organist, pianist and singer. He has Grade 8 with distinction in all three disciplines and is currently working towards the Associate of the Royal College of Organists diploma.

He is also a composer and has won the Leicester Musicfest Composition Competition (under 18 category) three times. For 10 years, he has sung in Leicester Cathedral Choir, where he is taught by Avalon Summerfield. He is also an organist at Anstey Parish Church. He is about to begin Year 13 at English Martyrs’ Catholic School, where he is the organ scholar and studies with Roxanne Gull. After completing A-levels in Music, English Literature and Religious Studies, he hopes to study Music at university.
